How would you characterise Stanley in Holes?
Comment on how you feel about Stanley now that you have finished the novel.
Re: How would you characterise Stanley in Holes?
I think Stanley is a very poor character at the beginning of the story and a very lucky character at the end. First he is being accused on stealing some "famous" shoes that he didn't even steal and next he is being sent to a camp which is even worser then jail. And then he finds out all along he had thought wrong about his great-grandfather. But I thought the worse thing that happened was he found out that he ends up in all this trouble because of Zero, which stole the shoes. But in a way I think he is also very lucky because if he didn't go through all these things, then he wouldn't be the "Stanley" he is today. The "Stanley" at the end of the story is smarter and not think things so easy anymore. He realise that he isn't so unlucky after all!

We can find out some changes about his character from the beginning till the end of the book. At the very first beginning of the book(Pg.11), Stanley show his naive when he get off the bus, he said to the busdriver,"Thanks for the ride!" as the busdriver told him to becareful. After a couple of weeks, his discovered that he and his friends were told to dig not only for building characters, they were told to dig because the Warden wants Kate Kissin' Barlow's treasure. At that time, he change from innocence to intelligence.

I think Stanley is a very unfortunate character in the book. First he was accused that he stole a pair of sneakers which actually fall from the sky, after that he made a wrong decision to go to Camp Green Lake. Then he nearly dead when he stole away from Camp Green Lake. But finally he find himself is not so unfortunately after all because he found a treasure and he is able to go home.

actually stanley was so pitiful. he was innocent about the crime that the police thought stanley is the one who had stolen those shoes. that was the fault of zero had set him up. stanley was an innocent (and a bit stupid) child before he went to camp green lake. he was zealous about going to camp. when he found out what a exhuasted for him in camp green lake-digging holes everyday, and also facing those "friends" and "teachers" he is kind of like hopeless and so buggered. but he became a more mature and a determine person.he was brave, although he faced a lot of difficulties, he had the power to solve them. in fact, he was lucky that he found a tresure during those distressful days. that was so so so good to him......

I think Stanley was an ill-fated character. Originally, he can live in a wealthy family, because his great-grandfather had made a fortune in the stock market, but unfortunately he is robbed by a famous outlaw - Kissin' Kate Barlow. Then, He was accused because he stole a pair of famous sneakers, but he was totally innocent. After that, he had came to Camp Green Lake which is more worse than jail and have an uneasy life there. At last he break out from the heavy siege by the skin of his teeth!!! But at last he had found the treasure and the story ended with a joyful ending.
